SEOUL, April 7 (Yonhap) — Korea University on Thursday announced that it has decided to revoke the 2010 admission of the daughter of former justice minister Cho Kuk after finding lies in her records. high school education subject to admission.

The announcement came two days after Pusan National University in the southeastern city of Busan revoked the 2015 admission of Cho Min, the former minister’s daughter, to his medical school for using a fake internship certificate and other falsified documents in the application.

Korea University said it revoked Cho Min’s acceptance to its life science and technology college on Feb. 25 after learning that parts of his high school records in his admissions application contained lies.

The school said it then informed Cho Min of the decision.

Cancellations of Cho Min’s admission to both institutions came after the Supreme Court convicted his mother, Chung Kyung-sim, in January of academic fraud, including falsifying a citation from the university president for the daughter, submission of false internship certificates and other charges. The mother was sentenced to four years in prison.

Later Thursday, the former justice minister said on his Facebook page that his daughter had filed a lawsuit with a Seoul District Court, seeking to overturn the university’s decision.

“His mother’s criminal trial internship certificates were not submitted for admission to Korea University, and all they got was a (high school) student record summarizing those activities,” Cho Min’s attorney said in a press release. “Even if the student’s record had little effect on admission or no causal link was found, it is too harsh to revoke admission to college based on the record and possibly invalidate the doctor’s license.”

The 2019 scandal involving the family of Cho Kuk, then considered one of President Moon Jae-in’s closest confidants, ended up sharply dividing the nation, prompting massive rallies both in favor and against his nomination as president. post of Minister of Justice. He left office 35 days later.

Cho Min also requested a court injunction against the cancellation of medical school admission. A hearing on the injunction request is scheduled for next week.
