A freshman at Inha University in Incheon, west of Seoul, appeared in court on Sunday to answer questions on charges that he raped a classmate and knocked her down to death.

“I’m sorry,” said the 20-year-old suspect wearing a cap and mask as he arrived at the Incheon District Court when reporters asked if he had anything to say to the victim.

The court had to indict him to determine whether to issue a warrant for his arrest.

He was taken into emergency custody on Friday after the victim was found dead earlier in the day, apparently after falling from a building on campus. She was found lying naked on the ground at 3:49 a.m., apparently with blood on her head, mouth and ears.

The suspect allegedly drank with her and others before he and the victim left the group saying he would walk her back to school. Police believe he raped the victim in the school building and knocked him to death from the third floor.

CCTV footage showed the suspect assisting him as they entered the building around 1.30am Police said the suspect may also have attempted to destroy evidence as the victim’s clothing was found away places.

During police questioning, the suspect acknowledged that the victim was dead but denied pushing her out of the building, officials said. (Yonhap)
