Prosecutors said on Tuesday they had filed a new murder charge against a college freshman accused of attempting to rape a classmate and knocking her to death.
The 20-year-old student from Inha University in Incheon, 27 kilometers west of Seoul, had previously been arrested for investigation on charges of the attempted rape of the victim and the fatal fall from a building in the campus on July 15.
The Incheon District Attorney’s Office said it had charged the man with willfully negligent murder of the victim and sexually assaulting her.
The prosecutor’s office said the man must have known that falling from the building could result in death because the victim – who was drunk at the time – was left on the ground for more than an hour after falling.
The suspect is said to have been drinking with her and others, before the two left the group saying he would walk her back to school.
The prosecution, however, did not bring any additional charges against the man for having filmed the scene of the rape, citing a lack of evidence. (Yonhap)
