Soloists IU and Jay Park donate 100 million won each to flood relief after CATASTROPHIC rains hit Seoul

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: Last week saw one of the most disastrous rainfall Seoul has seen in many years. Rains on the night of August 8 reportedly killed at least nine people, injured 17 and left seven others missing. With such crushing damage in the nation’s capital as Seoul experienced the most torrential rains in three decades, various donations began pouring in.

It has been reported that popular celebrities like K-pop idols, as well as actors from the Korean entertainment industry, have come to help the relief campaigns by providing financial support. On August 12, it was reported that soloist and “nation sister” IU (Lee Ji-Eun) had donated a total of 100 million won ($76,782) to help with flood relief. Not only IU, but singer Jay Park (Park Jae-Beom) has also been reported to help out by contributing the same amount to alleviate the damage caused by the torrential rains.

IU Reclaims Her Gift Fairy Title

According to IU’s agency, it was reported that she had donated 100 million won ($76,000) to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association to help alleviate the damage caused by the torrential rains. With the addition of this contribution from IU, the total amount of donations made by her from January 2021 to August 2022 is 2 billion won ($15 million). Fans have known how consistent IU has been with her donations for years and have started calling her the Donation Fairy for her charitable deeds.

It was also reported that IU had donated 50 million won ($38,000) each to two different organizations under the alias IUaena, a combination of his name IU and that of his fan club Uaena to commemorate the release of his fifth regular album, ‘Lilac’. which was released in March 2021. IU also donated $10 million ($7,000) to the city of Gwacheon to be used for Covid-19 relief.

Jay Park donates to Seoul flood relief

On her last birthday, IU made a total of five donations to the underprivileged, including Korea Children’s Cancer Foundation, Children’s Support Group with Rare Diseases, and other organizations for a sum that exceeds the total of 1 billion won ( 7 million dollars) proving that his charitable actions are recurring. Besides IU, a soloist and CEO of More Vision, Jay Park donated 100 million won ($76,000) to help with the damage from the heavy rains centered in the central region of Seoul.

Jay Park is reported to have donated the money to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association through One Spirits Hospital. The donation made by Jay Park is intended to help flood victims so that they can resume their daily lives as quickly as possible. Jay Park also donated 50 million won ($38,000) to Hope Bridge in March when South Korea experienced the East Coast wildfires.
