UM’s tourism management major ranked 25th in world university rankings


The University of Macau is ranked 25th globally for hospitality and tourism management in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), the best position a higher education institution in Macau has ever had.

ARWU is one of the most influential global university rankings, copyrighted by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, and more than 2,500 institutions have been reviewed this year, with the world’s top 1,000 universities published in the table.

Meanwhile, UM’s overall rankings ranked 401st last year, down from 601st position in 2020, according to ARWU results released on Monday.

Macau University of Science and Technology ranked 601st in 2021, down from 501st the previous year.

The ARWU uses six indicators to rank global universities, including the number of alumni and staff who have won Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate, the number of articles published in from Nature and Science journals, the number of articles indexed in Science Citation. Expanded Index and Social Sciences Citation Index in the Web of Science, and per capita performance of a university.
