Village Farms (VFF) Announces First Quarter Loss, Exceeds Revenue Estimates

VVillage Farms (VFF) exited with a quarterly loss of $0.07 per share against Zacks consensus estimate of a loss of $0.01. That compares to a loss of $0.07 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents a profit surprise of -600%. A quarter ago, this greenhouse operator was expected to post a profit of $0.02 per share when it was actually producing a profit of $0.03, offering a 50% surprise.

In the past four quarters, the company has exceeded consensus EPS estimates twice.

Village farms, which is part of the Zacks Consumer Products – Staples industry, posted revenue of $70.16 million for the quarter ended March 2022, beating Zacks’ consensus estimate by 0.65%. That compares to revenues of $52.4 million a year ago. The company has exceeded consensus revenue estimates four times in the past four quarters.

The sustainability of the immediate stock price movement based on recently released numbers and future earnings forecasts will primarily depend on management’s comments on the earnings call.
