ENA’s “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” has shared a fun new behind-the-scenes look at the set!
“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” tells the story of Woo Young Woo, a young lawyer with Asperger’s syndrome who joins a large law firm (played by Park Eun Bin). Due to her high IQ of 164, impressive memory and creative thought process, the brilliant Woo Young Woo graduated at the top of her class from the prestigious Seoul National University for college and law school, but she still finds herself struggling when it comes to social interactions.
The new making-of video begins with Park Eun Bin, Kang Tae Oh, and Ha Yun Kyung rehearsing the scene in which they use salt and pepper shakers as impersonated stand-ins for real people during their conversation. After the soy sauce bottle becomes a stand-in for Woo Young Woo, Ha Yun Kyung adorably begins to treat “Attorney Soy Sauce” with special affection, even going so far as to lovingly pat his head.
In the next scene, Kang Tae Oh’s character Lee Jun Ho calms down Woo Young Woo after witnessing the fatal car accident in Episode 11. Park Eun Bin suggests that Kang Tae Oh grab his hands to stop her from banging her head, but he struggles to hold her hands in a way that doesn’t feel like he’s physically fighting her. When the director suggests that Kang Tae Oh grab his hands with one hand and then wrap his other arm around his shoulder, Park Eun Bin remarks with a laugh, “Looks like you’re stopping him!”
In the end, they decide to go with Kang Tae Oh to hug Park Eun Bin from behind, but the two actors struggle not to laugh as what should look like a kind hug turns out to be harder to pull off than expected. When Park Eun Bin takes the lead and demonstrates how to hold her, Kang Tae Oh asks, “Didn’t I do it like that?” Park Eun Bin then cracks him up, saying, “No, you do it like that,” and grabs him much harder.
Kang Tae Oh finally concludes, “Ah, this scene is difficult. It could easily be misunderstood [as restraining her instead of holding her].”
After the two stars manage to film the difficult scene, they move on to another emotional confrontation: the moment Lee Jun Ho is shocked to learn that Woo Young Woo doesn’t think they’re dating. As they go through their lines together, the director asks Kang Tae Oh to be even more surprised at first, noting that if he doesn’t, it might seem like his character is angry.
The clip ends with footage of Park Eun Bin unable to stop laughing during a take, leading her to laughingly declare, “I will do it one more time.”
