Women’s golf opens the season at the Mo’Morial Invitational

BRYAN COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Houston women’s golf program opens its 2022-23 season when it kicks off Tuesday morning at the Mo’Morial Invitational at the Traditions Club.

Competing on the 6,406-yard, par-72 course, the Cougars will play 36 holes Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun tee time. Wednesday’s final round begins with an 8 a.m. tee time.

A year ago, the Cougars finished second at the American Athletic Conference Championships and saw the seniors Annie-Kim qualify as an individual for the NCAA Franklin Regional.

MEET THE COUGARS
Under the direction of Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Gummthe Cougars will be represented by Kim, freshmen Nathalie Saint Germain, Alexa Saldana and Moa Svedenskiold and junior Nicole Abelar. Junior Delaney Martin will compete individually.


A year ago, Kim was the team leader, posting a team-best 74.03 average with 11 rounds of par or less. The Seoul native finished with three individual top-12 finishes, including a season-best fourth place finish at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational.


Kim became the first Cougar to compete in NCAA regional play as an individual competitor and was named to the All-American Athletic Conference team after tying 12e in league championships. She also earned honors as a WGCA All-American Scholar and was named to the All-Academic Team USA.


Saint German, Saldana and Svedenskiold will make their college rookie debuts with the Cougars after award-winning junior careers.


Abelar was named to the All-Conference Team after placing fourth at the U.S. Championships and competing in the U.S. Amateur Championships in August. Martin is one of the oldest stateswomen on the Cougars’ 2022-23 roster as a two-year winner.

The Cougars will face student-athletes from Charlotte, Florida, Kansas, Kansas State, Miami (Florida), North Carolina, North Texas, SMU, Texas, Texas State, Texas Tech, UTSA and host Texas A&M.

NEXT
After the Mo’Morial Invitational, the Cougars quickly continue their fall slate by taking the start of the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Okla. This three-day event will be held September 24-26 at Belmar Golf Club and will be hosted by Oklahoma.


From there, the Cougars compete in the Jim West Challenge, which takes place Oct. 23-24 at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas, and is hosted by the State of Texas.


Houston wraps up its fall schedule when it kicks off at Battle at the Beach, hosted by TCU at Club Campestre San Jose in San Jose del Cabo, BCS, Mexico, October 28-30.
