Women’s golf ready to go to Bruzzy


FORT WORTH, TX –The University of Houston women’s golf program wraps up its regular season when it competes in The Bruzzy, beginning Monday morning at Waterchase Golf Club.

The Cougars will play 36 holes on Monday and the final round begins Tuesday morning on the 6,277-yard, par-72 course.

This will be the Cougars’ last regular season tournament of the year before heading to the American Athletic Conference championships later this month.

Under the direction of Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Gummthe Cougars will be represented by seniors Ariana SaenzSenior Annie-Kimsecond Nicole Abelarsecond Delaney Martin and senior Maria Jose Martinez.

This season, Kim leads the Cougars with an average of 73.33 and 10 rounds of par or better, including four in the 60s. The Seoul native has earned two top-10 finishes, including a fourth place finish at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational from October 4 to 6, 2021.

Martinez is second among the Cougars with an average of 74.76, while Saenz and Martin are tied for second with seven rounds under par apiece.


The Cougars will face student-athletes from No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 13 Texas, No. 17 Baylor, No. 21 Texas Tech, No. 30 TCU, No. ‘Iowa No. 37, Oklahoma No. 49, Charlotte, Kansas, Kansas State, Tulane, Tulsa and host and 46and-Rated North Texas.

After The Bruzzy Houston takes its first steps into the playoffs when it competes in the American Athletic Conference Championships, which will be held April 17-19 at Pinehurst #6 – Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina

The Cougars will learn their NCAA playoff fate on the draft show, which airs at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, on the Golf Channel.

Seventy-two teams and 12 non-team members will compete at six NCAA regional venues across the country. These sites include Stanford Golf Course (Stanford, CA); Vanderbilt Legends Club (Franklin, Tenn.); The championship course at UNM (Albuquerque, NM); University of Michigan Golf Course (Ann Arbor, Michigan); Karsten Creek Golf Club (Stillwater, Okla.) and Seminole Legacy Golf Club (Tallahassee, Florida).
